Allen was busy this morning, the MeetUp.com group going to Highline Lake was leaving too late for my tastes, so I rode out to the well known but isolated gas plant and back home.

The gas plant is located in the desert north of Fruita.  Since there’s no irrigation water, it’s dry but beautiful.

On the way home, though, I texted Georgia and she met me for stomboli at Fruita’s Hot Tomato.

There’s a great coffee shop in Fruita, Bestslope Coffee Company, backed by the Hot Tomato ladies.  It’s well worth a trip from Grand Junction:

A nice trip with Allen to Highline Lake. Made 50 miles in intense (95-100 degree) heat with lots of stops for water and stromboli!

Metric half century (50 km). First organized event of the year, used to publicize and raise funds for a home maintained by St. Mary’s Hospital for relatives of patients.

One of the organizers of the Rose Hill Rally is  Ed Lipton, an attorney I remembered from my days practicing law, and the first Public Defender in Mesa County. I asked Ed about what bike he rode, and he strongly recommended the REI bikes. I subsequently bought one, and thanks Ed for the recommendation.

At the first rest stop, I was approached by one of the bike mechanics from Brown’s Cycles.

As it turned out, he has the same bike as I do – a Bianchi, same year, same color.
